Innovative agroforestry in Algeria: the FORECAST trial

FORECAST agroforestry trial in Algeria showing fieldwork in olive plantations, soil monitoring devices, and legume crops such as pea and faba bean used for sustainable agriculture research.

At the University of Constantine 1 (UC1), the Team led by Aziz Benhamrouche has established an agroforestry-orphan legume (AF-OL) system based on the use of pea and faba bean that were sown in olive tree plantations. The Team is monitoring the performance of the combined AF-OL system to collect data about growth rates and stress resilience. At the same time, the Team is collecting soil quality data, as a starting point to feed the FORECAST dataset that will be released in the frame of WP3 and WP4.
